On March 3, 2007, about 1630 mountain standard time, a Cessna, 172S, N526ER, veered off of the runway and collided with a ditch at Ernest A. Love Field Airport (PRC), Prescott, Arizona. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University was operating the airplane under the provisions of 14 CFR Part 91. The certified flight instructor (CFI) pilot and the student pilot were not injured; the airplane sustained substantial damage. The local area instructional flight departed Prescott about 1550. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and a company visual flight rules (VFR) flight plan had been filed. The approximate global positioning system (GPS) coordinates of the primary wreckage were 34 degrees 39 minutes north latitude and 112 degrees 25 minutes west longitude.
The CFI stated in a written report that during the landing rollout on runway 03R, the airplane started to veer off to the right side of the runway. The CFI allowed the 3-hour student to attempt to correct the airplane's track back to runway centerline, until he had to take the controls from the student. The student kept his feet on the brakes in an attempt to help the instructor slow the airplane.
The airplane departed off the right side of the runway, and continued for about 200 feet until it impacted a ditch. The left wing and firewall were damaged.
The CFI stated that the airplane and engine had no mechanical failures or malfunctions during the flight.
